Taking Action

Fighting for Reproductive Justice.

A double-major in social and political theory and African-American studies at Harvard, Anoushka is focused on securing reproductive justice for mothers of color. Anoushka interned on Capitol Hill for Congressman Jamie Raskin and the Democratic Women’s Caucus, focusing on reproductive health post-Dobbs, the child tax credit, and supporting working women. She served low-income mothers seeking public benefits as an intern with the Georgetown Health Justice Alliance. At a youth-led think tank in the Biden Administration's Youth Coalition, she led teen advocates to recommend equitable reimbursement of doula services to the D.C. City Council to address maternal mortality in the city. Anoushka produced a podcast at Ms. Magazine on the child welfare system and has published in Ms. and the Harvard Undergraduate Law Review on child welfare and the Equal Rights Amendment.

Empowering Young Changemakers.

At Harvard, Anoushka launched a conference for Future Leaders in Public Service (FLIPS) to give passionate high school students the tools to make change. For the past two years, over two hundred high school students from around the country came to Harvard to learn how to implement action plans that address a need in their communities.

In her D.C. high school, she founded the Student Action Committee, which teaches hundreds of teens the skills to engage their community. Before the 2020 election, she trained and led a dozen peers to lobby Congress on voter protections, such as early voting periods and vote-by-mail. Four years later, the SAC is the largest club at her alma mater with hundreds of students.

Lobbying is often seen as a dirty business, but Anoushka hopes to inspire her generation to lobby for change to improve their communities.

Teen Lobbyist for Voting Rights, Racial Justice, and Gun Violence Prevention

Anoushka is a trained lobbyist for voting rights, gun violence prevention, and racial justice. She worked with the Brady Campaign’s Teen Lobbying Collective to push legislators for gun violence prevention legislation and racial justice bills. In 2020, she trained and led dozens of young people to lobby Congress on voter protections preceding the November election. Her advocacy for voting rights was featured in VICE. She has continued to speak to high school students about the importance of raising their political voice.
